2019 State Legislative Races with No Major Party Candidate


Four States: Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Virginia, are holding 2019 regularly scheduled State Legislative Elections 538 Seats.

The Filing Deadline has now Passed in All Four States.

Of the 538 State Legislative Seats up for Election:

- 299 of them, 55.6%, Lack either a Democratic or Republican Candidate on the Ballot.

- 158 of them, 29.4%, do Not have a Democratic Candidate on the Ballot.

- 141 of them, 26.2%, do Not have a Republican Candidate on the Ballot.

Only One State Legislative Race has No Major Party Candidates on the Ballot. Louisiana State Rep. Joseph Marino (I-85th District) is Nonpartisan Independent and is Unopposed for Re-Election.

Here's the Breakdown by State:

Louisiana - 144 Seats (Senate 39, House 105), No Dem. 67 (46.5%), No Rep. 40 (27.7%), Total 107 (74.3%)

Mississippi - 174 Seats (Senate 52, House 122), No Dem. 78 (44.8%), No Rep. 55 (31.6%), Total 133 (76.4%)

New Jersey - 80 Seats (General Assembly), No Rep. 3 (3.8%), Total 3 (3.8%)

Virginia - 140 Seats (Senate 40, House 100), No Dem. 13 (9.3%), No Rep. 43 (30.7%), Total 56 (40.0%)
