Vaginal Care for Aging Women

Just like every other part of a woman’s body, the Vaginal area (or the vulva, to be exact) also changes over time. It is prone to the signs of aging like sagging, drying, darkening, and wrinkling. But whatever your vulva looks like right now, it’s safe to assume that they’re pretty normal. They come in different shape, size, and appearance after all. But are you giving it the right kind of vaginal care?

Keep the Vagina Moist

A common occurrence among aging Women is the vaginal atrophy. Vaginal atrophy is generally known as the time wherein a woman’s vagina suffer from dryness. It is caused by the drop in estrogen levels, commonly experienced by older women who are on the road to menopause. The drop in estrogen levels mainly affects the amount of moisture that is available in the vaginal area.

In order to keep the vagina’s moisture in acceptable levels, you can start with adjusting your diet. Adding foods like soy and those that are rich in Vitamin E is effective in replenishing the moisture down there. If it is not enough, there are natural vaginal serums that are made with ingredients that can mimic the estrogen that you may lack

Too Much Itch

A couple of itching every once in a while is a normal thing for women. But it can get worse as a woman ages. The explanation is simple. While everyone is susceptible to infections, older women have weaker immunity against these. The acid balance of the vagina also decreases for older women, leaving them to be more prone to vaginal itching.

Itching can be resolved by improving hygiene – a cornerstone in vaginal care. If the itching still persists, make sure that your vulva is not kept moist because this will only make the bacteria grow faster. An antibacterial talc powder can help it dry in no time.

Loose, Sagged, and Dark

Not all older women forget about sex life when they grow older. A loose vagina, sagging skin, and dark exterior can be a hindrance for a good time. You can go have a surgery down there, but it’s too expensive and does not really change it permanently.

In this cases, vaginal serums can make a difference. There are serums that make the skin around the vaginal area tighter. The skin can also gradually become lighter in color with regular use.

Menopause Period

The whole process of menopause tests a woman’s patience and tolerance to different hardships. There are different sorts of physical changes, mental stress, and emotional issues that can all happen within a month, repeatedly over years.

There are a lot of ways that you can prepare for menopause. You can add healthy diet and exercise on your vaginal care routine. You should also start to embrace age with grace by adjusting your lifestyle. Denying the process of aging will not do you any favors.

Aging can really take a toll on anyone, especially with their body. As much as we, women, take care of our outward appearance, let us not forget to take extra care down there as well.
