The Best Indoor Workouts for Winter

It can be extremely difficult to work out in the winter months. It is dark in the morning and early in the evening, so it may be dark before and after work. It is also cold, snowy or rainy. Who doesn’t want to just come home and veg instead of working out? You might also be trying to save money and not want to get a gym membership or any equipment. So here are some of the best indoor workouts that you can do at home:

  1. Jump rope. Jump ropes aren’t just for kids. They are a great workout and can help you get some cardio easily. Jump ropes are cheap and you can use them pretty much anywhere that you have a little room.
  2. Stair stepping. Chances are you have a set of stairs in your home. Even if you don’t, you can use a box or an old book to step up and down on. Going up and down stairs or even stepping up and down is a good leg exercise and can help you build endurance for other cardio exercises.
  3. A plank is great for building core muscles. Get in a push up position and hold. Start by doing it for 30 seconds and build up your endurance. It can be a fun challenge to start with your family. Who can hold the plank the longest?
  4. Pick your favorite music and dance your heart out! You can do this in your living room and it is an extremely fun and good cardio workout. You can also try video games like Just Dance.
  5. Lunges are great leg workouts that you can do anywhere with no equipment necessary. If it gets too easy, you can hold weights in your hands for more resistance.
  6. You may not think about cleaning as exercise, but think about the last time you deep cleaned your house. I bet you worked up a sweat!
  7. If you don’t want to buy weights, use filled water bottles or milk jugs as weights. You can do arm, shoulder and back strength training. Increase the amount of water as the exercises get easier.
  8. High knees. If you like to run but the weather gets too snowy and cold for you and you don’t own a treadmill, try doing high knees. It is a great cardio workout.
  9. Jumping jacks. Jumping jacks are also a great cardio workout with no equipment required. Try doing jumping jacks during TV commercials.
  10. Search Youtube. Youtube has tons of free workouts. Search for whatever workout you want, such as yoga or cardio training. You can also search for help on how to do specific exercises without hurting yourself.
  11. Go to the mall and power walk. Head somewhere indoors and walk around if the weather is just too bitter cold.
