COULD HAWKS SWOOP ON SEEMINGLY BLUE-BOUND CROW?

WANTAWAY Crow Mitch McGovern’s destination in Victoria may not be determined quite yet, with Hawthorn circling the forward.

McGovern has been heavily linked to a move to Carlton since requesting a trade away from Adelaide at the end of August. He is contracted for another two years.

But while a move to the Blues is still the most likely scenario, McGovern is gathering interest from the Hawks, reports Channel 7’s Tom Browne.

He queried why McGovern was yet to nominate Carlton as his club of choice.

“I think Carlton’s still likely to get Mitch, but I think it’s a little bit interesting that he hasn’t nominated Carlton as his club of choice yet,” he told Talking Footy.

“I think Hawthorn could be circling – just keep an eye on that.”

Is Shiel on the market?

WHY GIANTS DON’T HAVE TO TRADE SHIEL

WITH their 2018 seasons over, both Hawthorn and GWS are now looking towards next season and dealing with their out of contract players.

The big issue for the Giants is still Dylan Shiel. But chief executive David Matthews has stressed that cap issues will not force a trade involving Dylan Shiel.

He, Rory Lobb and Tom Scully are all in demand by other clubs while Lachie Keeffe, Sam Reid, Tim Mohr, Zach Sproule and Dawson Simpson remain out of contract.

“GWS boss David Matthews has made really clear that they won’t be forcing out Dylan Shiel because of cap tightness,” Ralph told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“Everyone in the league wants to tell you how tight they are and he says that some of those stories are exaggerated.

“I spoke to him over the weekend and he said ‘everyone should be tight with their cap. If you aren’t paying up to the cap you’re selling yourself short. I’ve found a lot of that constant speculation over Shiel distasteful.

‘We’ve done a lot of front-ending and back-ending over the years and we’ve got levers we can pull, so we’re confident in our position.’”

A move for big man Lobb to Fremantle could be on the cards, according to Ralph.

“He’s not desperate to get out, but of course Fremantle’s going to be interested. If they did move him on that would solve their issues with Shiel and the tightness,” he said.

At the Hawks, Ryan Schoenmakers is “absolutely desperate” for another contract reports the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

Decisions still need to be made on a group including Schoenmakers, Brendan Whitecross, David Mirra, Jon O’Rourke, Kieran Lovell, Marc Pittonet, Ricky Henderson, Taylor Duryea and Teia Miles.
