#alllivesmatter People, Wya??
Missing White Girl Syndrome: coined by the journalist Gwen Ifill, used to describe how the media and society focuses on Missing, abducted, murdered, or raped Caucasian girls, yet turns a blind eye to missing, abducted, murdered, or raped girls of color. As of 2014, 64,000 black girls were missing. There are 22 open cases of missing teens since the beginning of this year just in the D.C. area, in all of those cases the victims are either Latinx or black. Black people make up 13% of the total population, yet make up 40% of the missing people in the US. And if that isn't enough to fucking terrify and outrage you, the press is 4 times less likely to report a story of a missing Latinx/black person versus a missing white person. (and is even MORE less likely to do so if it is a missing black woman). Instead of plastering these girls names all over the news and leading a crusade to demand justice for the victims, police and society turn a blind eye and chalk all of these mysterious disappearances up to a "classic runaway situation". I think we owe it to the missing girls AND boys of color, to speak bluntly and honestly here. Our society is built on white supremacy, so when a white girl goes missing it will be on every news station and newspaper within 24 hours, yet when a black girl goes missing, NO ONE BATS AN EYELASH. Names like Polly Klaas, Elizabeth Smart, Natalee Holloway still remain recognized to the national public despite 10 years + have passed. Yet most people have never heard names like Morgan Richardson, Demetria Carthens, and Anjel Burl despite their disappearances occurring little to a few months ago. Where were Morgan, Demetria, and Anjel's Amber Alerts? Where were was the national outrage and search for justice for them? Oh that's right, Amber Alerts and justice are saved for white girls. We all have a duty to bring awareness and make sure no more brown or black girls are abducted. ANYTIME YOU SEE SOMETHING OF A MISSING GIRL, REPOST IT TO EVERY SOCIAL MEDIA YOU HAVE. DO YOUR RESEARCH, MAKE SURE EVERYTHING YOU DO POST IS ACCURATE. POSTING SOMETHING THAT IS FALSE IS ONLY TAKING THE ATTENTION AWAY FROM WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON, WHICH IS WHAT THE MEDIA AND SOCIETY WANTS YOU TO DO. And lastly, to the nice white womxn that showed their support at the Womxn's March and like to toot their own horn on what a great feminist they are and the people that love to hashtag #alllivesmatter, yet stay silent about our missing girls, YOU NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. GOING TO A MARCH AND WEARING A "PUSSY GRABS BACK" SHIRT ISN'T ENOUGH. YOU NEED TO HELP PROTECT OUR BROWN AND BLACK SISTERS OR DON'T YOU DARE CALL YOURSELF A FEMINIST. IF ALL LIVES MATTER WHY ARE YOU SO SILENT WHEN PEOPLE OF COLOR GO MISSING??? gtfo here with ur white supremacist shit. #blacklivesmatter #bringbackourgirls
