MY LONDON FASHION WEEK LOOKS AND STARSICA CATWALK SHOW

MY London Fashion WEEK LOOKS AND STARSICA CATWALK SHOW

My London Fashion Week looks

Hi everyone!

London Fashion Week is over and I am back! It was a very intense and hectic five days. To give you an idea what it’s really like to attend London Fashion Week, I have created a list of what I was up to during those five days:

  • The first and obvious one – I attended some amazing catwalk shows and presentations. For some shows I had a first row seat and for others I didn’t get a seat at all. I didn’t get into one of the shows I was invited to (Pam Hogg) but then I got into some other shows and presentations which I had not received invitations for, e.g. the STARSICA show I talk about below.
  • I took tons of pictures.
  • I had photos of my outfits taken.
  • I had early mornings and late nights which means I was getting very little sleep.
  • I took cabs all over London to make it from one event to another on time.
  • I queued for hours in the cold whilst still trying to look fabulous.
  • I met some great people in the queue who I intend to stay in touch with (you know who you are!).
  • I did not eat all day and then drank alcohol on an empty stomach.
  • I was shouted at by a photographer that “my elbow was sticking out during the show” (to that photographer – I hope my elbow is in ALL of your pictures!).
  • I went to some epic after parties, e.g. the Mimi Tran after party at The Scotch of St. James.
  • Although I am supposed to be on a low carb diet, I ate a whole large Dominos pizza (pepperoni and jalapenos) late at night! In my defence it had a very thin base.
  • I dropped my phone which got completely destroyed as a result. Fortunately I was eligible for an early upgrade and just had my new and beautiful iPhone X delivered

I must say London Fashion Week is not for the faint-hearted! Overall I sucked it up and despite some unamusing moments I enjoyed the ride. I attended some wonderful fashion events which gave me a lot of inspiration and I made new friends so it was definitely worth it. I think one lesson I have learnt is that sometimes it’s physically not possible to go to every single show and even if you do make it somehow, you will feel so exhausted and drained that you won’t be able to fully enjoy it. Next season I will have to prioritise some events over others. Making my schedule more realistic will allow me to truly savor the London Fashion Week experience.

London Fashion Week is also about the street style and for those five days certain areas of the city turn into catwalks. I find it very inspiring, I have seen so many incredible outfits ! Looking back at my choice of attire, I went for a very different vibe each day. I think this portrays the variety of my style and complexity of my personality. Have a look below at what I wore and let me know which look is your favourite.

STARSICA AW 2018 collection: “Seirēn sings for a Mad King”

The STARSICA catwalk show was one of the events I attended unexpectedly. I was waiting to see the Rocky Star show but it was still quite early and I was offered to see STARSICA in the meantime. I must say it turned out to be one of my favourite shows! It was more than just a fashion show; the models were dancing down the catwalk in a sound of Siren’s trances in this dramatic and hypnotising performance. Check out the “LFW day 3” highlight of my Instastories for more details. The collection itself is out of this world, the level of imagination and detail put into it are incredible!

The STARSICA press release explains the fascinating background of this collection:

The title of the STARSICA AW 2018 Collection is “Seirēn sings for a Mad King”. Ike Seungik Lee, the designer of STARSICA, took his inspiration from learning the phenomenon of otherness. The idea of this collection is primarily derived from observing the behaviours of the unspecified masses around us. We utilize the vision of those who interpret the egos and lives of others through their own subjective perspectives. In essence we are all the Mad King.

With this in mind, the collection constitutes a sense of dramatic construction, and draws on reinterpreting Greek tragedy as a fashion monologue. The playful motifs in wings and soft fur which can be understood as symbols of Siren, the troubadour, have been reinterpreted with a modern twist and found in the prints of Ike’s own paintings and the patterns created by embroideries. These echo the essence of mythological elements such as the star, bird and semiotic signs.

Inversely, the Mad King is portrayed through the gothic arched lines in wearable suits and hard reliefs on coats. The primary colour for the Mad King is dark purple, while grey is used to describe the Mad King’s power. The coffin reinterprets the portable bags carried by the Mad King.

Finally, glen check patterns and wide sleeves create the juxtaposition of fabrics and colours to express intertextuality and cohesive characteristics of Siren and the Mad King. These pieces are highlighted with romantic silhouettes on tail edges, scribble prints and splashes of gold which reflect the sense of sadness brought about by the death of the Mad King.

There is an inherent sense of humour and futility in the collection that is the DNA of STARSICA, displaying distorted aspects of our society in conceptual symbols.
