Tips,Tricks & Ideas: 🌿Decorating with Fake Plants

Tags: plant

If your Plant playlist songs include “I Will Survive” or “Only the Good Die Young“, it’s time to join Team Faux (plants). Because ain’t nobody got THYME for dying plants in the decor! Fact: You will increase your positivity and vibe just by looking at plants. Plants have been proven to relax and calm down us stressed-out humans. They also boost our concentration and how productive we are by almost 15%. However, if they keep dying on us that is no good for business.

Stating the Obvious: Tips & Tricks for Artificial Plants

Maybe overlooked, but there are some obvious things we are doing to make faux plants look fake. That’s NOT the goal, kids. The idea is to decorate with faux plants but make it appear that they are alive. What are you overlooking? You might be surprised at these faux flaws.

  1. Rooting For You: Re-plant your fake plants! Doesn’t matter that they have no roots, because we are going for making fake plants look real. So, just like you would do with a REAL plant, go make a Target run – get a new container – and “re-plant” your faux plant in it. Voila.
  2. A Little Dirt Never Hurt: Buy a small bag of soil and after you replant your faux plant, add some SOIL to the top. Fake, plastic soil looks… well… fake. If you simply add real soil on top of the fake soil the plant immediately looks real.
  3. Here Comes the Sun: If you put an artificial plant in a spot in a room that is dark or away from a window, won’t it kinda look fake? I mean, plants need the sun. Photosynthesis, y’all. Moral of the sunny story? Put that plant it in a spot where it might actually grow if it was a real plant. Tricky, huh?
  4. Mint to Be: Plant life can be lonely. Add in 1 or 2 REAL plants (try real succulents or cacti – they’re the most hardy plants) next to your faux plant. The mix makes it work.

Rules to Remember:

  • Rule #1:odd  numbered groupings (ex: 3 or 5 or 7 pots placed together) brings balance.
  • Rule #2: A pop-O-color in an outfit is a fashion guideline that works for home decor, too. For example, green plants in green pots against a white wall or table is stunning. Try it.
  • Rule #3: Think perfectly imbalanced.  Plants on a windowsill or table is easy to accomplish and brings that street-style apartment vibe to your decor. By adding a mix of things, like trending glass terrariums, chic gardening books, chic little vases or a framed photo of something you took in nature

Decorating Ideas:

  • Arranging different size pots looks relaxed and on-trend.
  • Perfectly imbalanced arrangements of plants on a windowsill or table is easy to accomplish and brings that street-style apartment vibe to your decor. Think about adding a mix of things, like those trending glass terrariums and vases
  • Add interest to a wall by installing floating shelves along with as many potted plants as the space will take (without overcrowding).
  • Use natural accents like shells/pine cones/twisted branches/etc… for all the plant feels.
  • Hanging glass vases with small plants against a window adds a delicate and chic charm to the space – just remember not to hang too many vases and follow the rule of odd numbers.

Loving how THESE hanging succulents from HedgeScapes adds that chic elegance to my space. Succulents are very popular and although I could get a live succulent, these are much easier to care for (wink). How PERFECT are they paired with THESE as an accent to the hanging ones!

Where to Shop: Looking for some AH-mazing deals on plants like my cactus, check out HedgeScapes. Not only is this hidden gem of a site filled with a bajillion artificial plant options, but the prices are within budget.

Enough of woefully whispering “don’t die” or “pleeeeeease grow” to plants. Faux plants are the way to GROW

I received the succulents to review from Hedgescapes in exchange for this post, but all opinions are my own.
