Crazy Rich Asians ; Certainly darlings I won't say I have first hand experience, but I do come from Vancouver. Therefore for those who don't know Vancouver is partially an Asian city. We have had a large Chinese community here since the turn of the century. In recent years it has grown . We have fabulous Chinese food, dim sum and some of the best luxury shopping .

Hence I have many Asian friends, therefore I can  relate to the great humor in this movie and love the characters.  Indeed this film is somewhere between My Big Fat Greek Wedding and a Jane Austen novel. Moreover this film is meticulous and hilariously alert to social structures, family dynamics and money. In my opinion this bright , funny film is a must see for film lovers and fashion lovers alike.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS ; THE COSTUMES

Darlings as a costume designer I loved  "Crazy Rich Asians" . When you look through my blog posts you will soon realize that I love detail and excess. For example Dolce and Gabbana are my favorite designers. Therefore this film had some great fun costumes that showed my penchant for excess!

For example, costumes in movies are more than just mere clothing . In fact they act as visual aids, dropping the viewers clues to the performers’ on-screen personas. In fact the movie Crazy Rich Asians portrays Singapore’s wealthiest folk, and all the fashion and glamour that come along with that pedigree. The wardrobe therefore was a huge task, but costume designer Mary E. Vogt, pulled it together using a breathtaking array of brands. From Elie Saab to Chloe, Dior, Ralph Lauren and even The Gap, clothes were used to speak of each character’s mood and psyche.

Crazy Rich Asians is about a middle-class-raised New York University professor Rachel Chu (played  Constance Wu).  Chiefly it's about her going with her boyfriend and fellow academic Nicholas “Nick” Young (Henry Golding) on an “adventure” in Singapore. Particularly they travel to attend the wedding of his cousin and for Rachel to meet his family. Moreover the apparent biggest hurdle would be Nick’s disapproving mother Eleanor Young (Michelle Yeoh). However this is surpassed by the craziness of how rich her boyfriend’s family really is. Furthermore he has downplayed and even never previously mentioned this. Additionally is Rachel’s cultural awakening as an Asian-American spending her first time in Asia.

We take a peek into how the film’s wardrobe designer Mary Vogt  highlights the division between The Crazy Rich Asians’s nouveau riche (flashy Gucci and Versace) and the old rich (elegant Valentino and Michael Cinco).

Dressed in a red dress, she is set to spend the day with Peik Lin (played by rapper Awkwafina), before heading to a party at her boyfriend’s mansion. Clad in red, the colour that represents love and desire, she stands out in these scenes, a bright spark among an opulent home. The dress was picked out by her mother, who told her what an auspicious colour red is — perfect to meet the boyfriend’s family in. I fell for the backless cut-out detail, and gorgeous shade of the dress.

Araminta’s liquid gold jumpsuit

Model Araminta Lee (played by Japanese-British actress Sonoya Mizuno) makes a mark in this gold sequin jumpsuit. A colour that symbolizes wealth and power, this is quite the outfit. Araminta is a little bit loud and brash, and it suits her character perfectly as she shepherds friends to her bachelorette party — on a private island, might I add. While you may not want to be loud and brash nothing says you can't steal the show in a great gold jumpsuit. Therefore darlings I've chosen the best glitz you can find !

Eleanor Young (Michelle Yeoh) is the mother of Nick Young. She’s all understated elegance in this floor-length plum gown. In conclusion Crazy Rich Asians is a really fun film. Crazy Rich Asians is fun, funny, gorgeous, and swoon-worthy. It’s got a terrific cast, glamorous locations, witty jokes, and a story with a lot of heart. Furthermore on top of all that, it may actually succeed in proving to Hollywood that both Asian-centered stories and romantic comedies deserve much more attention.
