Every-time Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or any other social media platform makes big changes around algorithms I see people panic. For me reading past the panic and getting down and dirty with the facts I see great potential for brands in most cases. Let's be honest here, the social media platforms require brands to use them as to advertise on them. If brands big and small started dropping off their platform they would lose revenue.
I've seen quite a bit of panic around the recent Facebook algorithm changes, and also had people who have point blank to my face told me that with these changes that you can no longer use vote baiting, react baiting and share baiting. That's when I've nodded and smiled, thinking to myself "I've done this on the odd occasion to test the way it works, but none of these would ever be the core focus of a social media strategy."
The new algorithm for Facebook, in short, will be prioritising comments and conversation over shameless promotion, and the content deemed to sales focused and spammy will be demoted.
I've found through my own experience that it is the people who are using the spammy and shameless self-promotion techniques, who are panicking. They are also the people who tend to try to play the system rather than focus on good quality storytelling and content.

- Avoid asking for comments, shares, or likes as a way to boost engagement.
- Have a good mix of content, it shouldn't be all sales driven
- Experiment with the types and formats of content you share
- Post content that encourages discussion and interaction

Brands don’t need to look at this latest Facebook algorithm update and panic. In fact, it can actually be viewed as a positive, with Facebook stamping out spammy marketing tactics, your brand has the opportunity to rise above the mediocrity.
