Gloucester Tree Australian Parrot Art - Parrots are often the subjects that appear in the paintings. Although you can often see a wide range of parrot species in captive collections there is nothing like seeing parrots in the wild. Over the years Western Australia has been a great location for sketching, photographing and studying parrots in the wild. One visit was to The Gloucester National Park in the south of the state and the stunning Gloucester Tree is a place where a wide range of parrot and bird species can be viewed up close and personal.

Bird species include Western Galah Cockatoos, Western Rosellas, 28 Parrots ( Australian Ringneck ),Rufous Treecreeper, Blue Wrens, Emus, Red-Winged Fairywren, White-Browed Babbler and numerous other species

Gloucester National Park is a national park in Western Australia, south of Perth and about 3 km from Pemberton.

This park contains the Gloucester Tree, a renowned karri tree. Visitors can climb up to a viewing platform 61 metres (200 ft) above the ground, using the climbing pegs inserted into the tree. The tree and the park are named after the then Governor General the Duke of Gloucester who visited the area in 1946. The tree served as a fire lookout and had the platform, cabin and climbing pegs installed in 1947.

Today it makes a wonderful place to view parrots, cockatoos and Rosellas that then appear in artworks.
