Turn-based BattleTech Returns To Mac 10 Years Later

BattleTech, the first turn-based Mech game in over 20 years, is coming to Mac and Windows on April 24, 2018.

Rarely does a strategy game create as much hype as BattleTech has, but it's clear gamers have been craving for a new tactical Mech combat game. The fact the game is being developed by Harebrained Schemes and published by Paradox Interactive certainly helps.

Harebrained Schemes is the studio behind the critically acclaimed Shadowrun Returns series and Paradox Interactive published Cities: Skylines. Clearly, BattleTech is in good hands.

BattleTech puts you in charge of a mercenary group based on the edges of civilized space. It will be up to you to negotiate and execute different combat contracts while recruiting and maintaining a tech army and keeping everyone happy.

The game will feature over 30 customizable mechs and turn-based combat similar to XCOM 2's, but with Mechs. The game will also include online multiplayer and single-player skirmishes.

An example of Kickstarter done right

First revealed in 2015, BattleTech hosted a spectacular Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly 2,8 Million USD in crowdfunding.

Harebrained co-founder and Battletech creator Jordan Weisman said:

We’re massively thankful to our Kickstarter backers and fans of the MechWarrior legacy .

Without their patience, dedication and support, this modern turn-based Battletech wouldn’t soon be launching on PC and Mac.

The MacOS was promised from the get-go and it's good to see they will keep their promise (something many studios, unfortunately, don't)...

BattleTech on Mac: Everything you need to know

Created using Unity, a multi-platform engine, BattleTech should be virtually the same on Windows and Mac.

These are the game's system requirements:

  • 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: macOS High Sierra 10.13.3
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4670
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 775M (2 GB VRAM)
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 30 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: Multiplayer is compatible between Windows and Mac versions.

BattleTech will be available April 24 on Steam. A Linux version will come at a later date.
