When I last covered Finding Light, I mentioned that I was definitely going to finish it, but that declaration has been tested once or twice. Its enemies’ tendency to use status effects can be a bit grating, and the boss fights often require dying at least once to figure out their weakness and change your equipment accordingly, but it wasn’t until I got stuck against an incredibly difficult spellcaster boss that I needed a break. It turned out that he was optional, though, or at least later content, and I fell back in love with Finding Light after returning to where I was actually supposed to be. The original plan was to finish the game up today and put a review up tomorrow on the 15th when it launches, but you know what they say about the best laid plans. It turns out that there’s a staircase right after the Tiamat boss fight that sticks you inside of a stalagmite, and since there aren’t any “exit dungeon”-type spells to fall back on, right now there’s no way of leaving the dungeon and finishing the game.

I experimented with brushing up against walls and such to try and find a secret way out, but didn’t come across anything, meaning that staircase appears to be the only available exit. That’s not the terrifying part, either—at 2:13, I tried saving inside the stalagmite to see if loading that save would somehow spawn me next to it or something, and while it didn’t, I realized after exiting and reopening the game that it did manage to wipe out 4 out of my 5 save games, with my slot 5 save being moved to slot 1 and the other 4 being wiped clean like there had never been saves in that slot to begin with. The possibility of losing hours upon hours of running around in circles to grind on enemies (this is a jRPG, after all) has more or less dissuaded me from experimenting further, so it’s not looking like I’ll have a review up by release.
