Speed Multiplier in Games

It's not an unusual concept, but I first dove into this playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on the PlayStation 4 right now. I've played the game once back when it was released on the PlayStation 2, but decided to replay the game again, considering the changes to the License Board. One of the new quirks is the Speed Multiplier, where you can increase the speed of the gameplay 2x or 4x the speed.

This is awesome.

Final Fantasy XII is an RPG where you can essentially let the AI fight your battles. They use whats called Gambits, where you can queue up certain skills and spells and attacks that your characters will use towards the enemies. Other games have a similar battle style where your AI partners would attack their own, and you can set your AI to attack as well. See Tales series or Star Ocean series.

Roaming around the map, especially far distances, or if you're simply grinding for items, these can be a bit boring if you think about the amount of time you spend doing things like this in video games, but to increase the speed in doing this is great. The option to speed things up should be inserted into any game. It's not like it's mandatory for the player to do so, it's optional. It's like how you have the option of watching a movie or listening to a song or podcast on 1.5x speed or 2x speed. The choice is yours and should be given.

I can imagine some games, the speed multiplier shouldn't be used as it makes no sense, but others it does and there's an appeal to anyone who wants to use it. So I hope to see more games in the future with the Speed Multiplier as an option. With the limited time people have now, and the sheer amount of games to play, this helps one small bit.
