Trove

Developer: Trion Worlds.
Publisher: Trion Worlds.
Release Date: July 9th, 2015.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows (PC).

Before installing, I initially hesitated, given the fact that it is a free-to-play game, but then I realized that there have been plenty of successful free-to-play titles on the Steam database, as well as other platforms. So, I took the chance and installed the game. The first step I took in-game was a doozy, only because I had to reconfigure the settings, but then I got it set with the perfect settings. The amount of fun you'll have is endless*, and I immediately enjoyed the game from the beginning.

It is definitely one of my most-favorite 'free' games, up on the list with Paladins and Fortnite.

*I have even more fun playing with my friend, we do our own seperate grind-sessions, then we go dungeoning together at some point.

Gameplay

From the start, you can choose from up to 6-7 different 'core' characters. I chose the Tomb Raiser not knowing that it was actually a decent character for my play-style. There are also other characters that you can buy with 'gems' (acquired with real money), that are definitely OPTIONAL. Everything that you can buy in this game with real money is OPTIONAL. Don't listen to the other reviewers who just type 'pay to win' or 'not really free to play' just because they're not good at the game.

Next, the Loot System. It's great, it resembles the loot system from one of the most critically acclaimed 'First-Person-Shooter' franchises, Borderlands. It's basically like this - the higher level you get, the better loot you get, just like any other ordinary MMORPG title.

Then, we have the Open-World, there are plenty of different areas that you can go to, but you need to be certain levels to access them. They're (Trion Worlds) basically protecting low-level people from dying constantly. There are dungeons you can explore, where the end goal, is to kill a certain boss. For example, in the starter areas, there are dungeons that require you to traverse down until you reach the bottom, then you must defeat the Golden Scarab.

Finally, the infamous Crafting system. It's unique, to an extent. You get a cornerstone (basically an area where you can build your safehaven), and you just build until your heart is fully content. There is not really an end-goal when building, it's just really personal preference, and all that fun stuff.

Pros and Cons

 Pros

Building
Adventuring
Open-World
Tons of Loot!

 Cons

Random crashes during gameplay.
Glitches while doing dungeons that require platforming (jumping around).

Should You Play?

I personally think that everyone should at least TRY the game before complaining about it, it's really a fun game once you get the controls down, and whatnot.

Overall score: 9/10
