YouTubers Life brought to us by U-Play Online, is a pretty cute idea for a Sim styled game. As the title suggests, the goal of the game is to become a massive Youtube star and to live the life of the rich and famous, which a quirky idea that grabs a lot of people’s attention.

You have to go through the process of making your videos, marketing them, and most importantly… get those likes and subscribers. As your channel grows so does your fame, which you have to manage. Then there’s the general grime of life. How can you be creative if you’re overly tired, and you need to take care of your love life too!

It’s the type of game that’s easy to pick up and becomes addictive pretty easily. It’s also suitable for kids too. It’s meant to be a little fun, so after a couple of hours it can be a little “samey” so, in other words, it’s not something for deep thinkers, but if you know what you are getting yourself into, it’s a great way to spend a few hours.

The Game

You start your YouTube careers where most Youtubers start. At home in their parent’s basement. Together with going to class and working, you start by filming, editing and uploading videos with only eating and sleeping to worry about. But life doesn’t stay that simple.

There is almost a game within a game. When your character sits down to create their YouTube videos, you are given scenarios and a set of cards that you can use to answer them. As you go through your game, you gain more cards to use. They have a points value and will make your videos more popular, which leads to more likes, which is the name of the game!

It’s about finding that balance and keeping the people in your life happy. You have to keep making videos to keep your subscribers happy, but then your mom is in your ear about your studies, but you’re not a robot, you have to live life too and build an active social life that includes dating.

It can get monotonous because it tries to mimic life and let’s be honest when you’ve got through with the day-to-day of life, there’s often not a lot of the day left. But if you like realistic Sims you’ll appreciate that so it’s horses for courses.

Gameplay

One of my favorite comments about Youtubers Life is

“YouTubers Life’ Is ‘The Sims’ for Sociopaths”.

That’s probably an accurate observation. It’s a simulation game that feels like it’s been influenced by games like Tycoon and Sims games.

You’re managing a new character looking to build a career as a Youtuber Personality. This means creating videos and editing videos and responding to comments. At the same time, you’re managing the character’s education and social life, which is in the realm of Sims, but in reality, it almost feels like a time-management game too. You have to keep a lot of plates spinning.

As a Youtuber, you get to negotiate advertising agreements and manage the revenue created from the ads on your videos. With that cash you’re able to buy upgrades to equipment for YouTubing and also personal, like a new home. You also get to keep leveling up your skills which also helps you to make even more money.

Like I’ve mentioned, it can be a little tedious sometimes like time-management games tend to be. You’re constantly worrying about getting your studying done and eating. But then Youtubing can be a bit of a grind. You’re having to create more and more content, which means you’re always editing and releasing, so as much as the game can feel a little bit of a grind after a couple of hours, which also plays into the realism of the subject.

Visuals

There’s not a lot to say really. It feels like a more recent release of a Sims game in many ways. The graphics are quirky and don’t take themselves too seriously. You can tell it’s not a Hollywood blockbuster budget wise and that’s absolutely fine because it’s the gameplay that really matters, the graphics play a supporting role.

The game is pretty intuitive. It’s well mapped out, and it’s easy to pick up and start enjoying, and the graphics also play their part in that intuitiveness.

Is It Worth It?

It really depends. Do you like Sims-like games? Are you looking for something that’s going to challenge you, that is complicated?

If you’re just looking for a little fun or you like the concept of being a YouTube star, you won’t be disappointed. Most reviewers who look down on the game are the type of gamers who love the major blockbuster games that they can play for days and weeks, or the Indie games, it’s neither of them.

But if you’re just something who likes to be able to pick up a game and get absorbed for a few hours, without having to think too hard, you’ll dig it.

Expect the tedium of a time-management game where you are having to constantly keep things going. Expect to spend a lot of time making videos. But you can also expect to nicely surprised from time to time and to measure your success clearly as you work your way through the game. The game is actually pretty addictive, so be warned!
