Never Alone. Also known as Kisima Innitchuna – which translates roughly to I am not alone – is an atmospheric puzzle platformer. You can play as Nuna (the girl) or fox, in single player you can control them both and freely switch to the other when you feel you need to. If you are running along as Nuna then the fox will follow obediently behind you until you get to a point where you need to do something in-particular to allow you both to carry on. This is a couch co-op game, your buddy can control fox and you can navigate the puzzles together, it’s quite an easy going game so it is possible to play it as a 1 player like I did, but as a 2 player I would say the workload spreads evenly between the 2 of you making sure you both have things to do and one of you isn’t sat there like a third wheel.
The game was developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat – the Alaska Native people. Nearly 40 Alaskan Native elders, storytellers and community members contributed to the development of the game. They tell the Story of a young girl accompanied by an arctic fox who set out to find the source of the eternal blizzard. The game definitely has a unique, calming feel to it. Some of the areas you go through are frozen tundra, ice floes and underwater ice caverns each area has its own charcteristics and problems to look out for. Through-out the game the narration is done by a master storyteller all spoken in the Inupiaq language and then, of course subtitled.
On your side-scrolling adventures you will have to run, jump, evade and time things just right and also enlist the help of the spirits. You will also bump into some owls on your travels throughout the tundra, these are collectibles and you may have to go out of your way to find some of them. All in all Never Alone is a charming game with interesting scenery and a memorable story, you can get the game on Playstation, xbox, steam or even mobile devices or you can join in the story with our featured video series playing the game from start to finish with me – Dalk.
