When news about the Heroes 2.0 update was announced, players reactions ranged from skeptical to outright joy. Skeptical, you say? Yes, the initial news about the update left out an important group of players – the veterans. The players who were there right at the start, who poured sweat and tears into the game and loved it like their own child were the only ones not benefiting from it. But Blizzard has since rectified this and we’re all happy again! 

Heroes 2.0 Highlights

Now that the update is LIVE, players can all look forward to a massive amount of fresh new content. Especially the injection of Overwatch heroes like Genji and D.Va into the Nexus, including a new Hanamura map!

Here are the highlights:

• Revamped Progression System
• Loot Chest Rewards for All Players
• Gems Replace Real Money Currency
• Forge Cosmetic Items with Shards
• Fun New Social and Customization Rewards

Progression System Overhaul

Similar to Overwatch, Heroes 2.0 will be removing level caps, so you’ll be able to level up to your heart’s content. You can also show off your dedication to the community through your player level that’s determined by the total of all hero levels gained.

Each time you level up, you earn a Loot Chest that contains items like playable heroes or even loot chest exclusives like Prime Evil Diablo.

And when you hit a milestone? Oh boy, are you in for a treat with even bigger rewards thrown at your beautiful account.

Loot Chest

There are four different types of Loot Chests: Basic, Rare, Epic and Hero-specific. Basic loot chests are awarded when the player levels up while the other types are earned when players reach specific milestones.

Each loot chest will contain four goodies, one of which is guaranteed to be of the chest’s rarity or higher. Not happy with what you’ve opened? You can reroll contents using your in-game gold!

Social & Customization Rewards

To immerse you further into the game, a wealth of cosmetic content will be included:

• Announcers: Let some of your favorite Heroes call out your takedowns, kill streaks, and more!
• Voice lines: Cheer on your allies and jeer your opponents with quotable catchphrases.
• Emojis: A massive collection of stylized and Hero-specific Emojis make chat much more expressive both in and out of the game.
• Banners: Raise a flag whenever you assert your dominance on the battleground.
• Sprays: Make your mark on the field of battle by dropping unique icons and tags on the terrain.
• Portraits: Show off your personality and expertise on loading screens and in your profile.

Now you can really embody your hero’s personality in-game, joke with your allies and show your dominance over the enemies! But remember, please do not spam. Everyone hates a spammer.

Collection & Loadouts

Out with the old in-game shop and in with the new…collection? Yes, that’s the fancy name of the new in-game shop. When basking in the collection, you can purchase new items, craft cosmetics and look through every item available in the game.

Featured items will still be rotated weekly as usual while, skins are split up according to their different color variations to make it more convenient for players to purchase exactly what they want. Each hero will have up to three loadouts to equip your preferred skins, mounts, sprays and more! But what if you’ve been eyeing a said cosmetic item but never quite had the luck to unlock it via a loot box? You can now forge it with a new crafting material called ‘Shards’.

Updated Currency System

On top of Gold, a new currency enters the Nexus in the form of Gems. While Gold unlocks new heroes and rerolls loot chests, Gems can be bought using real money and used to buy heroes and items at the shop.

Players will be awarded 1000 Gems when they hit level 5 and receive more as they level up. So start grinding early and you’ll be able to afford all the beautiful items about to hit the Nexus (ahem, D.Va).
