IsItVegan?

This app comes with both paid and free version. It allows you to scan for food and beverage product UPC code using your smartphone camera. Without having the need to press a button, simply points your smartphone camera at a UPC code on a product package. The app will display the product information and inform you if there’s a non-vegetarian ingredient inside. Of course, this app isn’t perfect, there are limited amount of products and ingredients in the database. Some products might appear to be unknown when you scan for them.

Alternatively, you can also perform a manual search by product or ingredient name. Let’s say you came across an ingredient that you are unsure with, for example, “gelatin”, you can search for the ingredient name and it will determine for you whether is it a vegetarian product or not.

Animal-Free

This app comes in free version. It’s a simple information based app that comes in 2 categories: Animal Ingredient and Vegan Ingredient. Animal Ingredient category is a list of ingredient names that are animal derived. Vegan Ingredient category is a list of vegan-friendly ingredient, usually are plant derived. It does not have a search feature, but not to worry, all ingredients in each category is sorted in alphabetical order.

Cruelty-Free

This app comes in free version. It shows you a list of companies and products that are cruelty-free. What’s unique about this app is, the list of product brands are sorted in different categories, such as cosmetics, household, personal care and etc. So let’s say if you are choosing a new facial product for yourself and it has to be vegetarian/vegan-friendly, you can use the app to identify a brand easily.
