How are the scores calculated and what does it mean?

Eye In The Sky is a 2015 British thriller film directed by Gavin Hood and starring Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul and Alan Rickman. EYE IN THE SKY stars Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, a UK-based military officer in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya. Through remote surveillance and on-the-ground intel, Powell discovers the targets are planning a suicide bombing and the mission escalates from “capture” to “kill.” But as American pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) is about to engage, a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone triggering an international dispute, reaching the highest levels of US and British government, over the moral, political, and personal implications of modern warfare. The score is composed by Paul Hepker & Mark Kilian.

It’s interesting to me because normally I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I do. If you break it down it’s quite standard military thriller music, but there’s something about the sound and the way the music makes me feel. Hepker & Kilian has done a great job creating music that really shines and that’s not easy to do in a thriller score. Some do it, but most don’t and Hepker & Kilian deserves huge credit for making even the mundane sounds quite exciting for the most part. Some of this music reminds me of another musical universe that I very much love and that is Jeff Beal’s score to the television series House Of Cars. I don’t think a score like this will go down well with everyone though. It’s just a very personal thing whether you enjoy this or not and I don’t think I can convince you otherwise, nor do I want to try. I just think that this is a very good suspense thriller score and you probably already know it you like it, I certainly do.
