Hacksaw Ridge Trailer: Mel Gibson Casts Andrew Garfield in the Role of His Career

Think what you will of Mel Gibson but there is no denying his contribution to some of the greatest moments in cinematic history. This year comes the release of his latest project Hacksaw Ridge, ten years after his last directorial effort, Apocalypto.

Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield) enlists in the American army during WWII, despite his morals against harming other human beings. He couldn’t sit back and let his peers fight for him so decided to go with the aim of saving the lives of his fellow soldiers, rather than taking the lives of the enemy. Shunned by those in his training camp as a coward, he sticks true to his beliefs and when the time comes makes his own mark on US history.

Personally, it takes a lot to get me excited about war films but Hacksaw Ridge‘s trailer exudes the quality, integrity and heart that modern cinema is so lacking. Gibson has cast Garfield in the role he was born for, perhaps the role of his career to date. He breathes so much life and truth into the character, without a doubt doing Desmond T. Doss justice. Keeping it Australian; the film also features Teresa Palmer, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, Ryan Corr as well as Vince Vaughn.

If the trailer is anything to go by, Hacksaw Ridge might achieve Forrest Gump status and be cherished for a long time to come. It hits US theatres in November. Watch the trailer below.
