A Song of Ice and Fire creator George RR Martin has announced the release date of his latest project Fire and Blood, a hardback telling the brutal backstories of the Targaryen Dynasty.
We knew there would be some big announcements coming as George RR Martin took a break from his blog a few months back, claiming that he was looking to complete some ‘exciting things’. Since then we’ve gotten a trailer for the new series adaptation of his novel Nightflyers, as well as this Book announcement.
Nightflyers is a science-fiction horror story set in outer space and has all the elements we’ve come to love from George RR Martin’s way of storytelling. It tells the stories of a starship crew who begin mysteriously dying one by one, electronic zombies, recreational warfare, a primitive alien culture, and an experiment in deep space. While Fire and Blood may not be the installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe we were all waiting for, it is still interesting nevertheless. It was previously confirmed by Martin himself that The Winds of Winter, the next book we’ve all been waiting for 7 years to come won’t be arriving this year. This isn’t the first time Martin has released a ‘history of Westeros’ style book, he’s already done it with The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones which he released back in 2014.

Fire and Blood has been set a release of November 20th. The book itself will initially only be available in hardback and is pretty big at 640 pages long. It’s an anthology book that promises to tell “the definitive history of the Targaryens in Westeros.” It will cover “all the Targaryen kings from Aegon I (the Conquerer) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane)”
