32 Days of Halloween XI, Day 18: Strangler of the Swamp!

It occurs to me that there are a great number of When Animals Attack genre films, so in the interests of public safety, it might be a good idea to provide a true cautionary tale for one way to avoid being devoured. This is, of course, courtesy of Hilaire Belloc.

Our own Cosette read this for you for one of our poetry celebrations.

And of course Belloc puts me in the mood for something about Edward Gorey. Remember the time he won a Tony Award? No? Well, here, he’ll explain. This is part of a delightful series called “Goreytelling.”

For our feature presentation…well, it sucks when you hang the wrong guy for a crime, yes? Especially when karma comes back to bite you in the ass and it seems the guy is back and taking out his frustrations on the descendants of those who killed him. This is Strangler of the Swamp from 1946, and it counts among its cast director Blake Edwards, and Charles Middleton, perhaps best known for playing Ming the Merciless in the Flash Gordon serials from the 1930s and 1940s. Enjoy!
