Miguel Acosta vs. Brandon Rios fight for WBA lightweight title on February 19

WBA Lightweight Champion Miguel “Aguacerito” Acosta is scheduled to Fight against undefeated challenger Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios for the WBA lightweight title on 2/26.

Brandon Lee “Bam Bam” Rios is a Mexican-American 24 years old boxer, with an undefeated record of 27 wins, 0 losses, and 1 bout ending in a draw. Currently the North American Boxing Federation lightweight champion, Rios stands at 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a 70 in reach, fighting out of orthodox stance.

Miguel “Aguacerito” Acosta, on the other hand, is the current WBA lightweight champion, 32 years old and has an excellent record consisting of 28 wins, 3 losses, and 2 bouts ending in a draw. He stands at 5 feet 8 and one half inches tall, his reach is unknown, and he also fights out of the orthodox stance. He is also known for his power and adaptability which are the reasons why he has not lost a fight since 2003. His most recent victories were against Urbano Antillon and Paulus Moses. He captured the interim WBA title against Antillon and then solidified his championship status by besting Moses.

With Robert Garcia as Brandon Rios’ trainer, this won’t help him at all in the fight. After the Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight, Garcia received a tremendous amount of humiliation being the trainer of Margarito.

A simple fight plan against Acosta will not work. Wanting to land a big jab is not going work either. What Rios needs is a skillfully designed boxing strategy that will wear Acosta down.
