It is similar to those who are older than 65 years old but no need of doing anything yet when still have employer coverage. It applies also when your spouse is the one working and the health plan by your employer covers both of you. After this, applying at special enrollment period is possible without the need of the late enrollment penalty being paid.

Seven months is given for initial enrollment period to sign up and these include the month you reach sixty five and three months each before and after. Though special periods start at the month that your employment ended. It can be also during the month that the plan with your current employment will end.

You can apply for this by filling up and passing an application form online on the Social Security website. This can be done also by calling their hotline number for assistance or by visiting their local office in your area. You do not need to do this each year but you have a chance of reviewing and changing your plans.

Some things must be done on the first year of you having Medicare which starts through filling up the authorization form. Doing this allows your friends and family to contact them on your behalf if your condition would not allow it. The personal health information you have could not be given unless that person is one of the authorized people according to your written permission.

Do your preventive visit appointment on the first twelve months since the start of your plan and this is only once and free. This would review your social and medical history and also give counsel regarding preventive services. They would measure your height, blood pressure and weight and calculate the body max index you have.

You can then sign up for the secure online service where your personal Medicare information can be accessed any time. This will help you in tracking down your health care claims, order a replacement card and track your preventive services. You would also be given a list of the tests, items or services that are covered with this.
