Gail Simmons “Calls BS On The Birth Plan”

Canadian Top Chef Gail Simmons Explains Why She Isn’t Going to Count on a Birth Plan

Gail Simmons, the 41-year-old Canadian Top Chef judge, is expecting her second child with music executive husband Jeremy Abrams. The couple is already parents to 4-year-old daughter Dahlia Rae.

The mama opened up on the various mothering topics. From the decision to give daughter Dahlia Rae a sibling, to her thoughts on a birth plan. Speaking to HATCHland now, Simmons joked, “I call BS on the birth plan.”

She revealed she’s never heard of a birth plan that went as mapped out, so she’s trying to relax and let nature take its course.

“That shouldn’t scare anyone, nor is it a bad thing, it’s just one of the few times in life you can’t control,” she says. “My goal is to have a healthy baby and to get to the hospital on time. That’s my plan. My plan is to not have my baby in an Uber.”

And the Top Chef judge said the decision to have another child didn’t come lightly. Gail Simmons and her husband Jeremy really relished in the last four years raising their daughter Dahlia. The couple was naturally concerned about the idea of having to divide their attention between two children.

Super proud and thrilled and honored to be doing double duty tonight as HOST (with the brilliant @joeyonan) and NOMINEE (best general cookbook!) of the 2018 @iacppix awards. It's been an exhilarating journey and I'm so grateful to the amazing team of people who shepherded my book along the way, especially my partner in crime and coauthor @cooklikeafox and my publisher @grandcentralpub. Whoo-hoo! 🙏💪❤️#bringingithome #iacp40

“We’ve loved the last four years with Dahlia, so it was a big move to consider going from one to two kids,” she told HATCHland.

Now that baby two is on the way the mama is fully aware how “it’s going to change our lives” and is “grateful” to be able to bring another child into the family.

“I’m so grateful to be having our baby, but I’m cognizant of how it’s going to change our lives and the systems we have in place.”

Today is #InternationalWomensDay, which celebrates the achievements of women across the globe. Over the last year, we've seen an unprecedented movement for women’s rights, and one thing is clear: our time is now. We are phenomenal, and we will make the world a better place for all women. Thank you @phenomenal.ly for this Maya Angelou-inspired tee! 💪🙌

And with her busy work schedule, Simmons is still trying to plan out her time away from work once the new baby arrives.

“Once the baby comes, I’ll see how it goes … you never know what kind of birth you’re going to have or what kind of baby you’re going to have. My plan right now is to take off the summer to be with my family and aim to go back to work as soon as I feel mentally and physically able.”

Sounds like you have it all planned out…
