Serena – Game Review

It’s been a long time since I last played an indie horror game so I decided to browse steam’s library and download a few. One of them was “Serena”

Serena is a freeware horror game about a man who wakes up in an old Cabin unaware of what happened and starts looking for his missing wife. It was developed by several video game development companies, including Senscape, CBE Software, Infamous Quests, Digital Media Workshop and Guys from Andromeda.

The man who wakes up in the cabin finds his wife missing and decides to stay in the cabin in case she comes back. While inside he rummages around the cabin to find some clues as to what happened. Through that we find out all about their marriage, both good and bad sides as the protagonist slowly starts losing his mind.

The best thing about this game was definitely the atmosphere. It felt very creepy and unnerving as the main character was moving around the cabin and digging deeper into the Story. The voice acting was also amazing and well done. The story was very interesting however the problem was the entire gameplay of the game was around 1 hour. Very short but to the point. The ending was probably the second best thing and I never saw it coming. I’d love to talk about it more but it would spoil the entire game, even though it is very much open to interpretation which is a nice touch.

There are a lot of small things in the game that I enjoyed a lot too. The changing of the face of his wife in the picture when you started to find out different things, the different poems above the chest and the two creepy looking pictures next to the window.

Overall even if it’s a short story with not that much to explore, If you have around an hour to spare it’s definitely a great time killer. You can find it for free on steam.

Final verdict: 7/10
