Saluting Dad’s Army

Saluting Dad’s Army is a Gold four-part documentary celebrating the classic Dad’s Army on its 50th anniversary.

Back Through the Years

Presented by Alexander Armstrong (Pointless), the show will explore the history of the iconic series and the impact it has had on British television. The roots of the show are uncovered as some of the true stories that inspired the series are revealed.

On the day of the 50th anniversary (31-07-2018) the first ever episode was aired on Gold at 8.20pm, the exact time it was first broadcast on TV in 1968. The remaining episodes from the first season were then shown throughout that week.

Armstrong revealed his delight at landing the role as presenter when he said:

“I’m thrilled to be involved in marking the 50th anniversary of the phenomenon that is Dad’s Army. I’ve spent a lifetime enjoying the brilliance of Jimmy Perry, David Croft and the extraordinary cast. Now I get to explore everything from the birth of the show to its wonderful legacy and aim to bring fans new insights into the show we all loved so much.”

A Nostalgic Return to the Dad’s Army Set

We at the Camden Studio contributed to the upcoming series by providing studio space for the show to recreate sets used in the original Dad’s Army. Some photos from this detailed but intensely enjoyable process can be seen below. Saluting Dad’s Army is expected to be aired in the coming Autumn.
