Get Out Movie Review

Get Out is one of the recent movies that got me really curious. It was released only in selected theaters in Indonesia at first, but after a good audience response, it earned its wide-release, and I'm glad it did.

Get Out is considered a Comedy horror film, and it's correctly considered because it is funny in all the right ways a horror comedy movie should be. It has some practical scares, psychological thrills, and the best part is that this movie also deals with current real life issues, like racism and prejudices.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined. - Wikipedia

For me, the funniest part of this movie are Rose's family's black house and grounds keepers, Walter and Georgina. They're both incredibly weird that it's funny and terrifying at the same time. There's one scene with Walter and Chris that made most people laugh but I'm not gonna spoil it right now.

The best thing about this movie is that it balances out comedy and horror, scares & thrills with real issues. It keeps the audience guessing; is Rose's family racist? Is Chris just paranoid? Why are the people so strange? What the hell is happening? But it doesn't get annoying because it uncovers the truth in a way that either makes you laugh or scared - keeps you satisfied.

In the end, Get Out is very enjoyable both in a comedic and horrifying way, so I'm giving it a 9 out of 10.
