Bollywood has always boasted of colourful films and larger than life heroes, heroines and villains. The storyline of most movies is spun around a handful of characters, often portrayed in a clichéd manner. Therefore, it is imperative for the Movie makers in India to create characters that were previously unheard of. However, these new characters may also fail to impress the audience resulting in a total failure of the film. It is possible that the film succeeds even if a particular Character in it is irritating to the point of nausea. Here is the list of top 10 most irritating characters in the Hindi movies.

Himesh Reshammiya as Monty in ‘Karzzzz’:

The character of Monty played by famous (and infamous) music composer Himesh Reshammiya in the movie ‘Karzzzz’ was a bad attempt at the remake of the 1980 blockbuster, which had three less ‘Zs’. There is no doubt about the creativity of this music director who has given a new outlook to “nasal singing”, but his enactment of the role immortalized by Rishi Kapoor was downright irritating. The character was so annoying that most took a vow not to watch any of his movies ever again.

Sanjay Dutt as Pritam Singh in ‘Zilla Ghaziabad’:

The role of a notorious cop who is entrusted with the responsibility of bringing calm in the panic stricken city of Ghaziabad was a big turn off for everyone. Though Sanjay Dutt is a comprehensive actor, the way he goes about his role and annoyingly churns out boring dialogues seemingly trying to adapt to Salman’s ‘Dabangg’ act, makes this character a perfect fit for the second position.

Kamal Rashid Khan as Raja in ‘Deshdrohi’:

There are very few characters in the movies that have earned so many brickbats from the critics and audiences alike than the character of Raja played by Kamal Rashid Khan in the superflop ‘Deshdrohi’. The character of the unemployed youth fighting against the enemies of society was enacted hilariously and irritatingly by KRK. This character is still remembered by the audiences – for all the wrong reasons.

Abhishek Bachchan as Beera in ‘Raavan’:

The character of Beera, played by Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Raavan’, could be easily termed as another of those annoying acts where an actor’s lack of acting abilities belittles an otherwise strong role and leaves no stone unturned in infuriating the audiences. In addition, the constant scowl and growl make the matters worse for him. Just to prove a point: the same character played by Vikram in the Tamil version, ‘Raavanan’, fetched him the Best Tamil Actor Filmfare in 2010.

Haseena Man Jayegi’:

The movie, a comedy, lost the plot due to its characters that irritated the moviegoers like hell. One of the leading characters in the movie, Sonu, played by Sanjay Dutt, irritates one to death. The way the character dresses up and the manner in which Sanju delivers his dialogues leave nothing much to be expected. His failed attempts to add a Punjabi flavor to his dialect completely misfired.

Akshay Kumar as Agastya in ‘Joker’:

The role of Agastya in the movie ‘Joker’, played by Akshay Kumar, deserves the sixth position in the list of most irritating characters in Hindi movies. Though, many characters played by him in other movies could be contenders for this spot, too, ‘Joker’ stands out due to sheer audacity of the character’s claptrap persona. The portrayal of the character is as bad as the movie itself and rightly deserved serious criticism.

Shahrukh Khan as Asoka in ‘Asoka’:

‘Asoka’ is, and still remains, one of the few Bollywood period movies. Picturised on lavish sets, movie buffs expected a lot from the film especially when Shah Rukh Khan was playing the Mauryan Emperor. However, the character of the majestic Asoka the Great was reduced to a farce. It became unbearable for the audiences as the film was nowhere near to the recorded history of the valiant king – neither in portrayal nor in enactment.

Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil Chatterjee in ‘Barfi’:

The famous Bollywood movie, ‘Barfi’, also has one such character. Jhilmil Chatterjee, played by Priyanka Chopra, is an autistic girl but her portrayal completely ruins the character. Overacting by Priyanka creates more of a sense of frustration than sympathy for the character. She tried her best to adapt to the needs of the character but failed miserably. The movie did very well but it’s not easy to stand the character, especially when it’s not being filmed from a distance.

Govinda as Veeru in ‘Jodi no.1’:

Seriously, what was he thinking? Veteran actor Govinda was nowhere near his hilarious best in this highly overacted movie, ‘Jodi no.1’. His awkward dialogue delivery and shabby dressing sense further added up in making him look all the more annoying and infuriating. Other actors in the movie didn’t fare better either, but Govinda won the race to infamous glory all the way. His character, named Sonu, still offsets moods of even those who are watching it for the first time.

Mukesh Tiwari as Jageera in ‘China Gate’:

The movie, ‘China Gate’, had not one, but many annoying characters. One of the characters, Jageera, a dacoit played by Mukesh Tiwari, leads the honors and comes out victorious in irritating the audiences. Jageera suitably bags the 10th spot for the way he annoys the audience with insignificant growls and loud dialogues. The movie and character were paid back in their own currency by moviegoers who declared it a big flop at the box-office
