The National Weather Service announced today that summer 2018 will be extended into late October in order to allow Bandai Namco to release Dark Souls Remastered as promised. Dr. Johnny Realdoctor, the NWA’s Head of Gamer Appeasement said in a statement that I absolutely did NOT make up, “When I heard that Dark Souls Remastered for the Nintendo Switch was getting delayed yet again, I knew I had to do something. This was the sort of event that could send two highly volatile fanbases, Dark Souls fans and fans of the Nintendo Switch, into a feeding frenzy.” When asked if this change that allows Bandai Namco to technically keep their promise to fans made him a hero, Dr. Realdoctor said, “Of course it does. I expect to be awarded a medal any day now.”

The tragic tale of Dark Souls Remastered on the Nintendo Switch began on January 11, 2018. The anticipated port of the first Dark Souls title to current-gen hardware (also the Nintendo Switch) was announced during a Nintendo Direct, claiming that all platforms would receive the remaster on May 25, 2018. The Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC received the port on the promised date, while the Switch version was delayed until “Summer 2018”.

Earlier today it was revealed that Dark Souls Remastered would finally come to the Switch on October 19, 2018. With the Autumnal Equinox occurring on September 22, Bandai Namco was opening itself up to the abuses of two of the most dedicated and over-enthusiastic fanbases the internet has to offer.

Only time will tell if Dr. Realdoctor’s efforts will pay dividends for Bandai Namco. Regardless, we must all prepare to explain to the non-gaming public why summer will persist into October. Or we could always just blame climate change. Either way, really.
