2 Meter Radio in My Electric Car

That's right. After we sold the modified Wrangler and Bronco II I felt like I needed a new toy. Something usable as well as fun. So I started looking at older convertibles and other interesting vehicles. Unfortunately most of the ones I could afford were too old and would need almost constant repair. Been there done that! Then I stumbled across a bunch of low mileage Nissan Leaf all electric cars that had come back from 5 year leases. Long story short I bought a 2011 Leaf for the same money I got for the Wrangler and have been driving it all over town.

Okay, so that's how we (me) acquired the Leaf. Evelyn won't drive it! Of course I can't have a car without a 2 Meter radio so I installed a Yaesu FT7800R 2m/440 dual bander. I mounted the main box under the passenger seat and the face plate on the dash where there was a spot just the right size. I placed a mag mount antenna on the roof and, howdoyoudo, it works great.

So now I can drive around town and hear every little thing that is going on with my radio friends...jeesh, turn the damn thing off!!!!!!!!!

We still have HF/VHF/UHF radios in the truck and Evelyn's car, nothing new there. Check out our updated QRZ page for radio stuff...click on my call sign at the bottom of the signature area.
