What’s Happening in Taipei: May Events

5 Taipei events to check out this May!

Dear Taipei,

I’m happy to report that this month is really solid on the events front – there’s both local and international cultural celebrations, and various festivals stuffed with food and music to enjoy.

As you all know, I write a roundup for Travelog of 5 particularly captivating events to check out each month. Please check out my article, Taipei this May, as it outlines exactly what you need to know to decide if they’re worth checking out. I’ve included a brief rundown of each event below – you’ll know which ones they are as they have a banner image and a longer description.

I’ve also added some more events to check out, so read away to learn what’s worth doing this May in Taipei!

And while we’re on the topic of events, don’t forget to read my article, !

May Events in Taipei

Various Cinco de Mayo Events (May 5)

There are a ton of Cinco de Mayo events in Taipei this year to choose from.

Check out my Cinco de Mayo event article to find out where to go!

2017 Europe Fair (May 6-7)

Say “Happy Birthday” to the EU with this Europe-themed party (Image credit: Europe Fair and European Economic and Trade Office)

Celebrate the anniversary of the beginning of the EU by attending this EU-themed party in Taipei’s Xinyi district. At the Europe Fair, expect all things European – food, drink, music, and spirit. The event is free to attend, so you may as well swing by if you’re wandering around the area.

Wine, Cheese, and Board Game Pairing (May 6)

The name says it all! Learn more about the event here.

Spectacular Atrophy (May 6)

“A one-day installation exhibit and small press expo featuring live radio broadcasts, music performances, theatre, and other surprises.” Check out the event here.

Latin American Food & Music Festival (May 14)

Tijuana TACOS in Taipei! (May 17)

3 days of Tacos – need you know more to realise you must go? Learn more about the event here.

Crystal Castles Live in Taipei (May 18)

Crystal Castle is one of the best electro acts you can see live (Image credit: Crystal Castles)

Crystal Castles is one band I never expected to like so much. Seeing them perform at an EDM festival in Sydney many years ago, I was taken aback by just how incredible they are live. They’re here in Taipei to perform for one night only, so if you’re into that scene, get a hold of some tics to see what the fuss is about.

Google I/O Extended Taipei (May 18)

One for the coders of Taipei. Look like there’s a pretty fantastic lineup of talented and influential speakers to learn from. Check out the event here.

Roche Musique Label Night (May 19)

Enjoy some chilled out tunes from France’s Roche Musique Label. See the full event here.

Eat For Love – Summer Charity Vegan Fair (May 20)

Let your vegan friends know about this vegan event to score major friend points (Image credit: Water Garden Organic Farmer’s Market and It’s a Vegan Affair).

We all have that vegan friend who laments the lack of options available to them when dining out. Tell them about the Eat for Love Summer Charity Vegan Fair, and you’ll be in their good books forever. The event is for a great cause too – grab a bite to eat there, and you’ll be helping out wonderful local charities like Mary’s Doggies, Bright Side Projects, and the Wild Bird Society of Taipei.

Ximen Art Lane Market (May 20)

Head to Exit 3 of Ximen to check out some cool art stalls. Check out the event here.

Pitbull live in Taipei (May 20)

Pitbull brings his “Climate Change Tour” to Taipei. Learn more about the event here.

Stage Time and Wine LXXXix (May 20)

“We welcome everyone to share the space as we revisit some familiar performances and be wowed by the new. Performers may sign up on the day of the event (open mic format).” Check out the event here.

Taipei Dragon Boat Festival (May 28-3)

Here’s hoping for great weather to enjoy one of Taipei’s biggest sporting events, the Taipei Dragon Boat Festival (Image credit: Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government).

Looking to add a cultural activity to your May calendar? The Taipei Dragon Boat Festival held at Dajia Riverside Park is your ticket. Watch skilled teams speed down the river, and join in on traditional dragon boat festival activities. The event goes for three days, so try to squeeze some time in your busy schedule to see it for yourself.

Hope you get inspired to head out and about with these May events!
