Read this guide to learn about where to go to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this May in Taipei

Dear Taipei,

One of the best things about living overseas as an expat is celebrating the special days of other cultures. Living overseas exposes you to celebrations from all over the world. Take, for example, Cinco de Mayo. I must admit that before I came to Taiwan, I hadn’t even heard of it! It was only after my work made an event for it last year that I celebrated my very first Cinco de Mayo at the tender age of 26.

For the uninitiated, History.com explains the holiday as follows:

Cinco de Mayo —or the fifth of May—is a holiday commemorating the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.

Whether you’re a die-hard Cinco de Mayo fan, or want to see what the fuss is about, here are a bunch of Cinco de Mayo and Mexican/Latin American-themed events to check out this month in Taipei! Bottoms up!
