This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the Festival "A Shaded View on Fashion Film", produced and created by fashion visionary Diane Pernet. Studying film in college when living in the U. S. , Diane went on to be a fashion designer, writer, journalist and one of the first fashion bloggers, but always maintained her fascination with film. In 2008 she inaugurated A Shaded View on Fashion Film, the first film festival to focus on fashion and style. In the following years the festival was presented at the Pompidou Center in Paris and also traveled internationally to Tokyo, Moscow, Mexico City, Cannes, London, New York, Los Angeles and many other cities. Past guests and jury members have included Jean Paul Gaultier, Mike Figgis, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Steven Meisel, Larry Clark and Chloe Sevigny.
To celebrate the landmark occasion, the "A Shaded View on Fashion Film" will be a two city event in Paris and Rome, spanning six days. The impressive list films this year features Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Kendall Jenner, Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton, Elijah Wood, Amber Valletta; fashion brands such as Prada, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Vivienne Westwood, and Stella McCartney. The jury president is Rossy de Palma and President of Honour is fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
Diane Pernet, says: "I’ve devoted the past 10 years of my life to fashion film. But I’m no less excited about it today than I was back when I first sat down at Cinespace on the Hollywood Boulevard in LA to see the curtains lifted for ASVOFF’s precursor event. Once I brought the festival to Paris, the fashion film genre evolved and ASVOFF evolved with it. We became part incubator and part accelerator for the genre – and a hub for all the creatives from the fashion, film, art and music industries who weren’t afraid of collaborating, converging and sometimes colliding to make something powerful, exciting and new.”
