Event Highlight: Restaurant Week in New Orleans

In New Orleans, food provides far more than just nourishment and nutrients. The culinary creations put together by some of the city’s most famous chefs actually give eaters a taste of New Orleans’ rich history and diverse culture. Locals, visitors, and foodies alike who know the power of food in the Big Easy can rejoice: Restaurant Week is coming back to town!

A Restaurant Week Preview

Restaurant Week will be September 10-16, so out-of-town guests will want to book their New Orleans experience as early as possible. Restaurants across the region and in virtually every neighborhood in and around the city will be offering their finest dishes to delight diners’ taste buds. It won’t only be upscale restaurants participating; quite a few mom and pop restaurants and neighborhood joints will also be joining the fun. The event, presented by the Louisiana Restaurant Association in partnership with New Orleans & Company, celebrates not just the city’s top culinary talent, but its rich cuisine and flavorful way of life.

What to Expect

Diners will find deals from more than 100 restaurants in the area, including steakhouses, sports bars, casual markets and cafes, sushi bars, taverns and distilleries, and dessert cafes. A few of the many participating joints include:

  • Commander’s Place, a Cajun and Creole restaurant located in the Uptown/Garden District and a favorite of tourists and locals alike. (Don’t know the difference between Cajun and Creole cooking? Find out!)
  • Brennan’s Restaurant, a traditional spot for upscale French and Creole food in the French Quarter. Try the Bananas Foster!
  • Shaya, a newer Uptown spot featuring Israeli cuisine with a Southern twist.
  • Seed, which offers vegan spins on Louisiana comfort-food classics in the Garden District/Uptown area. Try the Southern Fried Poboy!

Restaurant Week Discounts

Each restaurant will offer its own special fixed-price menu offering some of their tastiest fare with about 25 percent off the regular menu price. Some restaurants will be offering two-course lunches for under $20 and three-course dinner menus for under $40. This gives diners—whether locals or out-of-towners—a chance to check more New Orleans restaurants off their bucket lists and enjoy all that the culinary scene has to offer here.
