TTB’s 3 Fascinating Facts About Flagstaff

The Travel Bug was recently on his annual road trip across the USA and picked up his 12th state after crossing the Nevada border into the gorgeous lands of Arizona. While having a burger stop at a roadside diner in Flagstaff, he got chatting to the waitress and found out some stuff about the city.  Gracie shared these facts with him:

  • Flagstaff is also known as The City of The Seven Wonders. This is because it’s surrounded on all side by seven natural wonders of the world!  Theses are The Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater National Monument, Oak Creek Canyong, Wutapki National Monument and the San Francisco Peaks.  Phew….that’s a LOT of incredible stuffs to fly over.
  • The longest remaining intact portion of the historic Route 66 road runs through the state of Arizona, with a big slice of this running directly through Flagstaff, making it a popular destination to road trippers like TTB and his humans.
  • Former planet, Pluto, was discovered in Flagstaff!  The smart humans of Lowell Observatory actually found something in the solar system that no one else had ever managed to find.  Unfortunately, Pluto is no longer included in the official list of our major planets, but is still the name of TTB’s favourite Disney dog.  According to NASA, Pluto is now considered a ‘dwarf’ planet.  As far as TTB is concerned, a dwarf or not, a planet’s still a planet.

Do you have any other Fascinating Facts about Flagstaff to share with The Travel Bug?

Hasta pronto, amigos…
