Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: Hotel Profile

Hotel Profile: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

As one of the two original resort hotels at Walt Disney World (the other being Disney’s Contemporary Resort), Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is steeped in the history of Walt Disney World.

While much has changed at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort since it first opened in October 1971, the overall ambiance and casual island feel have remained a welcome constant. While still a member of the Deluxe Resort Category of Walt Disney World hotels, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has a much more low key and laid back feel than most of its Deluxe Disney counterparts.

Stunning soft white sandy beaches have been a trademark of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort since it first opened in 1971.

A Welcoming Island Community

Located on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon and facing Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, this expansive resort property is comprised of many low rise (three storey) longhouses, which were designed to mirror the feel of an island village community. Since this is one of the original Walt Disney World hotels, there is the added bonus of having larger rooms, as presumably designers were not as focused on packing in more guest rooms in 1971.

The grounds of Disney’s Polynesian Resort are lush and tropical, with winding paths and plenty of exotic foliage to complete the picture. It will really appeal to you if you like the idea of a less modern (design) and more tropical resort hotel.

A Bora Bora Bungalow (overwater) at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Another highlight of this resort are the stunning Bora Bora Bungalows. These over water two-bedroom bungalows offer full-service amenities in every respect— and that includes a full-size upscale kitchen and master suite will full bath. The Bora Bora Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are what I consider to be among the most desirable accommodations in all of Walt Disney World. In fact, these are my favourite place to stay (along with Club Level accommodations in the Royal Palm Club at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort).

Upscale Amenities for Guests of All Ages

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort features a wide range of amenities, with most shops and dining located within the main Great Ceremonial House (where you arrive and check in). There is also a Luau Cove, which hosts the resort’s traditional style luau feast and performance.

The resort is linked to the other properties on the Magic Kingdom monorail loop with a convenient monorail station located inside the Great Ceremonial House. Guests of the resort will be pleased to know that they can also walk to the Epcot monorail at the nearby Transportation and Ticket Center — the only resort offering this capability. There is boat transportation to Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and bus transportation is available for all major Walt Disney World destinations beyond the immediate area.

Overall, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a very popular property, particularly for families who enjoy the laid back and carefree nature of the theme. If you book here, you likely will not be disappointed.

If you are like many guests, you may find yourself trying to decide between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Or Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. So I created the head-to-head comparisons linked in the previous sentence just for those of you who are struggling with that burning question.
