City Break – Vienna

A three day trip to Vienna was a unique experience for us, for one reason: it was the first time we have chosen to stay using Airbnb.  We had booked a Roof Top Studio with Terrace located in 16th district  – Ottakring. The apartment turned out to be exactly what it ‘said on the tin’. One room studio with a kitchen annex and a compact bathroom. Basic but functional and clean. Things like towels, linen, kettle, hair-dryer and so on provided. Internet was working without flaws not to mention perfect communication with the host through emails and texts. Beforehand we received detailed instruction on how to get to the apartment from the airport and how to get into the building and the flat itself. On the top of that we were very happy with the location. The apartment turned out to be right in the middle of  Yppenplatz where you can strongly feel quite unique atmosphere.

“ Yppenplatz, or if we may…Hip-penplatz (hehe) is one of the most buzzing and cosmopolitan squares we can think of in this lovely city. Yppenplatz offers a generous amount of restaurants and cafes that can spoil you with choice.”

No doubt we were very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in Yppenplatz hustle and bustle that especially at weekend time could be quite an experience.

We arrived at Vienna International Airport from Gdansk with Wizzair. Our 72 hours tickets for Vienna public transport was a useful purchase. In effect we were using public transport without thinking, and it took us almost anywhere in the city in no time at all. Again, happy with that one. So during those three days spent in Vienna we were just hanging around and enjoying ourselves. Additionally the weather was perfect.

Places we have been to in Vienna in pictures

Vienna Old City is an obvious destination and needless to say is impressive. Palaces, fountains, gardens, buildings, everywhere you look gives the WOW effect. Despite the inevitable crowds… Yes, it does. After not that much time we moved on from there to Prater.

Prater is a large public Park in the 2nd district of Vienna just across the Danube canal. It is also the location of Vienna Prater amusement park with the world famous ferris wheel  right at the entrance. We strolled through park hovering amongst variety of less or more dangerous looking attractions.

What have we seen and were impressed by in the capital of Austria

Then , quite unexpectedly,  we stumbled into a big complex of modern buildings that turned out to be  Vienna University of Economics and Business. It is the new campus situated just next to the beautiful, large and very relaxed Prater public park. As a matter of fact we were pleased to see a non tourist side of the city. Not to mention the importance of the place for Austrian people’s well being.

Below here are some other places in Vienna which we took effort to visit and enjoyed the result.

The New Danube plus hot weather – excellent relaxation.

Hundertwasserhaus and Kunsthauswien – examples of distinguished architecture

Churches: St.Francis of Assisi Church also known as Mexico Church and much more famous St.Stephen’s Cathedral

And the iconic Schonbrunn Palace
