More Days in Israel – Tel Aviv

Tags: tel aviv aviv

Two out of our three days in Israel was spent in Tel Aviv/Jaffa. I liked Tel Aviv. I really did. Here, at the beginning of my story I want to believe I’ll be back in the city….. one day…. maybe pretty soon. It was very interesting,  but well…., expensive. According to Peter, Tel Aviv is overpriced for what it is. Anyway, we knew it before we set off. In spite of that I repeat to myself: “You want to go back to Tel Aviv (Israel  – really, two days is not enough to see it all…), get a job, a well paid one, make sacrifices, make savings, and go!” Tel Aviv is worth getting a job, taking out a loan, or even sitting down in the street (as I’ve witnessed in Krakow) with a card reading: “I’m collecting money for my second trip to Tel Aviv – Please Give Generously.” – [or similar…]

Now, back to reality

We travelled to Tel Aviv from Jerusalem Central Bus Station on bus 405 for 18 NIS each. The bus arrived in Tel Aviv New Central Bus Station –  definitely not a place to dwell on. The very first taxi we saw was ours and off we sped straight to the hotel we had prebooked for the stay. Margosa Hotel in the old town of Yafo. The hotel was an excellent choice. Great location! Nearby to the old Jaffa port, yet within walking distance to modern Tel Aviv. Very eclectic site with a lazy, relaxed atmosphere buzzing in the evening. Margosa Hotel turned out to be reasonably priced, clean and modern. The staff were professional, competent and helpful. Open 24 hours. Tea and coffee facilities available not only in rooms but also in the reception area  plus choice of juices and cakes. No charge for that. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I found Tel Aviv charming, laid back, warm and colourful. Below I would like to show some of the locations in Tel Aviv we stumbled across and enjoyed while wandering around in the warm Autumnal sunshine.

Clock Tower and Hassan Bek Mosque neighboring –  Old Jaffa and Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv Promenade – Taleyet  with lovely beaches and  people who enjoy themselves.

                    Neve Tzedek District

“Neve Tzedek was the first neighborhood built in the new city of Tel Aviv back in 1887. At the beginning of the 20th century Neve Tzedek was the home of many artists and writers. But in the following years the area suffered from neglect. Old streets and houses crumbling away. Only in the 1980’s the place recaptured its former prestige and has since become a stylish yuppie residence with plenty of restaurants, galleries and designer shops.”

Rothschild Boulevard

Well, all literature about Tel Aviv points out that Rothschild Boulevard is one of the most important, iconic and a principal street in the city center. Its’ long  and has many cafes and eateries where you can sit down and watch life passing by. Not the worst way of spending your spare time.

There is much more to explore in Tel Aviv I believe. Even though we had such a short time in “this city that never stops” we tried to taste as much as possible.

I would say: “If I were a rich man…” – I would definitely go back …
