Mt Larcom

Did you know we have a Bucket List! Yep, we do and for the last few years, I have had Mt Larcom on that bucket list. WELL, I now have double-crossed it off – won’t need to ever climb that mountain again, Dave reckons I will want to go back, but I still can’t walk so I don’t think so.

We have climbed Mt Ngungun, Mt Coolum, Wild Horse Moutain, Mt Tibrogargan base and another one near Mt Ngungun but can’t remember the name. The next one on our bucket list is Mt Walsh at Biggenden – we have done the Utopia Falls at Biggenden.

I am not able to move much at all after our climb up Mt Larcom and back down. It did take us 2 hours to get up there and 2 hours to get back down. We meet some amazing backpackers while sitting up there – and one of them joked that they had ordered a helicopter to get them all down – I was like “Oh cool, how many can it take at one time”

And he let me know about three people. I let them all know that they could now walk down and I would happily get into the helicopter! Cause that is the worst thing about climbing a mountain, you got to climb it back down to get off it.

THIS SIGN IS ON THE GATE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CLIMB

Please do not attempt Mt Larcom in the middle of a hot summer day – it would be crazy mad if you did. People have died on to the top of the mountain

THE ONLY PART OF THE TRACK WHERE YOU THINK – YEP THIS IS GOING TO BE EASY AS AND THEN ITS NOT!
WHERE THERE SHOULD BE WATER – BUT ITS SO VERY DRY AT THE MOMENT AND THERE ISN’T ANY

This would normally be a wet river bed [and that is why there is a bridge] mind you if there was a flash flood it could easily go over the walkway.

I couldn’t imagine walking up Mt Larcom if it was wet, or rainy or had just been raining. It would be so slippery. And could be very dangerous – it was hard going back down because it was loose dirt and lots of rocks – if it was wet it would have been too much.

DAVID SPENT A LOT OF TIME WAITING FOR ME TO PLAY CATCH UP AS I HAVE SHORTER LEGS THEN HIM {AND KYLE}

There was lots and lots of Blue markers letting everyone know that they were on the right path to the top of the Mountain – no-way could anyone get lost if they kept their eye out for the blue paint.

I THINK THIS WAS PART OF THE TRACK WHEN WE WERE GOING UP – I TURNED AROUND TO CAPTURE THE STEEP CLIMB.

Like I said you can’t see how steep this climb was by the photos. Being there -it was way steeper than Mt Ngungun and way harder than Mt Coolum.

KYLE SPENT HEAPS OF TIME WAITING FOR ME – HIS LONG LEGS MEANT HE COULD EASILY TAKE OFF WAY AHEAD

WE MADE IT TO THE TOP!

SNEAKY DAVID GOT THIS PHOTO WHEN I WASN’T READY BUT I REALLY LOVE IT CAUSE IT CAUGHT THE REAL US

YES! We had made it to the very top, and it was soooo good. Because this climb really played with my head. It was really strange – at first, the track goes up, but then it goes downhill. Then it went back up the hill.

David worked out that the track cuts across from the base of the Mountain to the other mountain nearby. And then goes back around to Mt Larcom and that is where it gets really steep.

Some parts are flat ground, and you can see amazing views, and you think that “oh Yes we are almost to the top” but nope it keeps on going and going.

It took us 2 hours {oh okay – it took me 2 hours} to get to the top. I would have liked to have tried to do it in 1.5 hours but never mind.

HOT SWEATY MESSS BUT WE MADE IT TO THE TOP
LOVE THIS KID – HE LOVES ADVENTURES JUST LIKE ME
KYLE IS LEARNING TO TAKE REALLY GOOD PICTURES
WE ALL WERE WONDERING WHAT THE PINK LOOKING LAKE WAS ABOUT?

We meet a bunch of backpackers from all over the world, and started to chat with them.

All of us were wondering if that was a pink lake or was it chemical place?

OH LOOK AT THAT VIEW

Can you all see the “love heart” out there? Where ever we go lately Love Hearts keep on turning up! Shame the view was a bit hazy that day, it would be amazing to see it at sunset and sunrise.

SO WEIRD TO SEE A TOWER UP THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE
AGAIN THERE WAS A SECTION OF STAIRS WHICH SEEMED SO OUT OF PLACE! IT WAS NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE TRACK
DAVID SPOTTED THIS CUTE LITTLE FURRY ANIMAL

Yeah I so wouldn’t want to touch him – he sure looks really spikey hey! So now we have seen Penguins in the beach down in Shellharbour, Dingos on Fraser Island, Wild Brumbys on the way down to Rainbow Beach, way too many snakes to count, Rabbits in Queensland, Kanargoos {unfortunately way too many killed on the side of the road}, Turtles hatching at Norval Park Beach. Wild Camels at Rubyvale and now this little cute Echidna

SEE THAT CRAZY BIG MOUNTAIN – YEAH IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE IT CAN BE CLIMBED WHEN LOOKING UP AT IT.

Looking up at the mountain it doesn’t look like it can be climbed. But going around to the back of Mt Larcom makes it possible. It’s steep, there are parts where you have to work out where to place your feet and then to place your hands to pull yourself up on it – and going down is really tricky.

But it was on the Bucket List, it’s now off the Bucket List.

And we did it.
