India is one of the most beautiful countries in the world; the surreal landscapes, great customs and traditions, delicious food, and of course, the incredible mountain peaks will definitely appeal to your senses and if you’re a mountain lover fond of these unspoiled territories, I guarantee you that exploring the Himalayas will be an unforgettable experience. The dramatic forests that rise above the skylines, snow-capped glaciers, and high-altitude deserts will leave you speechless. India is not an average type of country, and what I’ve seen in pictures does not compare with the incredible sights I’ve had the chance to witness in person. Started my travel adventure to India with Sikkim The landlocked Indian territory of Sikkim is so steep that it’s amazing how diversified its vegetation can be. From oaks, orchids and cactus, to orange trees and rhododendrons, as I was climbing higher, I found out that Sikkim was home to the so-called Loch Ness monster. Let’s get this straight though, it does not exist! On my abrupt itinerary I came across The Monastery of Tashiding which was built in the 18^th century. The interior of the edifice was just radiant, not to mention that the copper lamps and Buddhist influences made the whole place seem truly sacred. On my way to Ladakh & Leh Located between the Indian regions of Kashmir and Jammu, close to the Kunlun mountain range and the Great Himalayas, Ladakh is an impressive region inhabited by the Indo-Aryan people. The main city is Leh, and very few places around the Indian Himalayas are so traveler-friendly as Leh. Dotted with crumbling mud-brick homes and stupas, the old town is dominated by rocky hills and an interesting Tibetan-style fort and palace. What I absolutely adored about this place was the bustling bazaar area where there were many pizza restaurants, and souvenir shops that helped my friends and I to relax after such a challenging trek. Leh was an astounding place to explore; I really loved the people, the landscapes, the food, and of course, the attractions and I’m telling you, I would go back any time I was offered the opportunity. Uttarakhand – The Land of the Gods Located on India’s northern side, Uttarakhand is often known as a Land of the Gods because of the wide variety of pilgrimage centers and Hindu temples. The region is famous for its beautiful views of the Himalayas, Terai and Bhabhar. Pilgrims have been coming to Uttarakhand for thousands of years in search of purification, hope and salvation. I’m not a Buddhist, but I was still impressed with the place. The shrines were not just varied, they were also sacred, so I did pay my respects. I noticed that tourists were more than welcomed here, so we took the extra time left to admire the beautiful places we came across and to find more about the Hindu and Buddhist religions. While in Uttarakhand, we went to see Haridwar and we stumbled upon Kumbha Mela, an event that is celebrated every 12 years; millions of Indian pilgrims come here to pray and we were somehow shocked by the whole vibe of the celebration. Himachal Pradesh & the Dalai Lama experience We continued our Himalayan adventure with Himachal Pradesh, India’s 3^rd fastest growing economic center.  Renowned for its abundant, all-natural beauty, the territory is packed with perennial rivers, vegetation, and welcoming inhabitants. The mystique of the mighty peaks of Pir Panjal and Dhaula Dhar, as well as the western part of the Himalayas rise majestically above Himachal creating the most unbelievable scenery. The monasteries of Spiti, Lahaul, and McLeod Ganj – home to the acclaimed Dalai Lama, are waiting adventurous voyageurs to delight in the breath-taking surroundings. McLeod Ganj was about 4 km away from the town of Dharamsala where we were staying, and together with Manali the whole territory is the largest traveller hang-out in Himachal Pradesh. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, budget hotels, internet cafes, and flea markets to explore. Don’t forget to take your time to admire the Himalayan range because it’s absolutely marvellous. India is without a doubt an unforgettable country to travel around. The mountainous region of the Himalayas is a favourite spot for adventure-seeking mountaineers and trekkers from around the world. Some areas have never been trekked before, which is why I became so obsessed with this fine-looking country. I’m definitely looking forward to my next Indian adventure!
