Ministry of Tourism will rescue Puerto Plata and will develop Barahona

The Dominican Republic has an ambitious Tourist Land Use Plan (POTT) to encourage investment in the sector and promote community participation which houses the various tourist destinations in the country.
 
"This plan seeks sustainable Tourism development, and urge through regulation and policy formulation and strategic actions to encourage investment in tourism, and promote management ensure community participation,"said Maribel Villalona Nunez who participated in the Dominican Annual Tourism Forum (Fodatur 2012), organized by the Dominican Tourism Competitiveness Consortium (CDCT), sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Sustainable Tourism Empowerment Programme.
 
According to the expert, representing the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism at the event, working in the education of human resources, order the territory, having adequate infrastructure, conserving nature, protecting the attractions, guarantee security, stability investment and an effective marketing plan.

Villalona Nunez says the POTT seeks Barahona positioning as differentiated tourism product of the region, strengthening support infrastructure to tourism, local human resources qualification and promoting SME oriented tourist economy.
 
In addition, the Dominican tourism authorities make efforts to strengthen regulatory instruments relating to tourism and the regulatory framework to ensure the proper management of natural resources and sustainable architectural form.
 
In that regard, she announced plans to boost the tourist resort of Puerto Plata which includes the rescue of public space, creating walkways, readjust the structures of buildings, retrofitting of city landscape, its power lines and tree planting and signaling streets.
 
"In short, we are committed to ensuring the long term viability of the different tourism, providing the necessary support to encourage cultural activities so that tourists and residents have access to the characteristics of Dominican culture," said Nunez Villalona .

  In this regard, we propose to rescue and restore the lands of Fort San Felipe to create a strong and clear identity that celebrates the geographic, historic and urban site, with the creation of the amphitheater, plazas and living spaces, areas green and parking will become a cultural center to complement the tourist offer.
