Queen Mary 2 Anniversary celebrations!

Friday the 9th May 2014 was a day of celebrations for Cunard cruises, and marked the iconic Queen Mary 2's 10th birthday!

It was officially her 10 year anniversary since her 1st sailing.

Queen Mary 2 is a purpose built transatlantic cruiser and in the past 10 years she has 419 voyages in total with more than 200 of those being transatlantic to New York.

All 3 Cunard ships were to be part of the celebration, and just before dawn they sailed into Southampton followed by a tug with water jets and the Queen Mary 2 sailed past her sister ships to an array of whistles and horn blowing!

Hundreds of people lined the shore to watch the 3 ships sail out of Southampton later that evening and the event included an amazing 10 minute firework display.

It was originally planned that Cunard would release 10,000 balloons to mark the celebrations but the idea was scrapped only a few days before the celebrations after worry over local wildlife.

Happy Birthday Queen Mary 2!
