Feltrinelli Bookstore - Florence
I love bookstores. I ve spent half my life hanging out in them and there are a few really great ones in the northern hemisphere. I would count Dussman (Berlin), Shakespeare & Co. (Paris) and la Feltrinelli Red (Florence) as my three all-time favorites.

My closest Feltrinelli is a short drive away in Perguia. The Florence store is a little further but is one of my first stops each time I hit 'the big smoke'. So exciting to see its long awaited upgrade which has incorporated a bustling bar/cafe/trattoria serving a good range of tuscan snacks. And still managed to find a little extra space to House their beautiful displays of exquisite books, writing accessories and gourmet food products.
If you like to partake in a spot of people-watching, grab a Table outside under the beautiful arcade overlooking the piazza. Seated here you will receive table service and be able to take in the theatre that is Firenze.
On a recent stay in Florence, we ate breakfast here every morning - our hotel being just around the corner next to Palazzo Strozzi - and it was great to sit and linger over the papers before starting the days schedule.
Feltrinelli's range of books is astonishing and there are several sections representing foreign languages, including english, which makes it a perfect choice to choose a gift or souvenir. And if you wish to linger a little, climb the spiral staircase and settle into a comfy chair with a book of your choice...no one will bother you.
When you are next in Florence, check out la Feltrinelli Red- Piazza della Repubblica, open 9.30 - 11pm.
