Chitrambakkam is a small village located at a distance of around 60 kms from Chennai city in Tamil Nadu State of India. The nearest well known site is Thakolam, which is at a distance of 13 kms from here. This village has a small temple which has a historically important evidence. Let us discuss about that in this article.

It is a little known remote village. There, again a little known small Selli Amman Temple. In that temple, there is a stone slab that has the inscriptions dated 679 CE. It mentions about a temple which was built by someone during the reign of Paramesvara Pallava I.

It is one of the oldest evidences in the form of inscription that mentions about a structural temple in Tamil Nadu state.

The temple that is mentioned in the inscription does not exist today. This Selli Amman temple is a recently built temple. People, who do not realize the importance of this ancient inscription, use that as a stepping stone to enter into the temple.

Happy travelling.
