Five tips to remember while taking a trip to Bali

The Indonesian volcanic island of Bali has become a backpacker’s paradise since the last few decades. Due to its crazy cheap economy, excellent landscapes and magnificent volcanoes, it has emerged as one of the go-to Southeast Asian destinations. Renting one of the luxurious Bali villas and spending some relaxing time amidst some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in this tourist-friendly island is an easy way to get away from the everyday schedule of your regular life. However, although Bali is really tourist-friendly in most of the ways, there are a few things you should be aware of when you travel to Bali. Each and every travel destination has its own issues, and Bali is no exception. Here are five tips which will help you spend a hassle-free vacation in Bali so that you can enjoy your holiday in peace.

#1 Be wary of scammers

Scamming of tourists is a common and widespread problem in Bali. From taxis without any meters to money exchange scams, from inflated price tags to rigged ATM units, there is no shortage of tourist scams going on in Bali. You must always keep your radar on and be street-smart if you don’t want to fall victim to any of these scams while you enjoy your Balinese vacation.

#2 You might face some awkward moments

In a recent Facebook video, a married western woman has shown a Balinese hotel staff who is blatantly shooting some indecent proposal at her in exchange for a certain refund which the hotel won’t bear. Although this is not a regular or common problem in Bali, per say, recent history has shown that westerners may face some awkward moments while in Bali. As Balinese culture is very different from the west, you have to keep that in mind while you spend your time in Bali. Showing too much skin at the beach or anywhere else may attract some attention, entering a temple or any religious building is a strict no-no.

#3 Pack a lot of light clothes

Bali weather is hot, humid and sweaty. No matter how many light clothes you pack, you can never carry enough. With an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade and high levels of humidity, you will be leaving a pool of sweat as you walk around in Bali. So pack your clothes accordingly when you visit in the otherwise beautiful island.

#4 Choose where you stay carefully

The roads of Bali are almost always packed with traffic and it can take a long time to reach one place from another. So you need to research and choose your base carefully so that you won’t have to travel too far to be in the middle of the action.

#5 Stay hydrated

As Bali is hot and humid, it is very important to keep yourself hydrated while you travel around Bali. However, be careful about the water you drink while you are here. Tap water is not at all potable in Bali. So fill your bottles up with filtered water, or buy mineral water bottles to keep yourself well hydrated.
