What happened on Day of Arafat?

The significant ‘Day of Arafat’ is the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah and the second of Hajj pilgrimage. Arafah is Arabic word (Yawm Arafah) and on this Islamic, all the Muslim pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafat from Mina to offer prayers and supplication to Allah.

Importance of Arafat

On this early bright in history, this ayah was revealed that doubles its importance.

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed my favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.” (Surah al Maa’idah 5:3)

Allah took a promise from offspring of Prophet Adam,

“On this day “Allah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on The Day of Repentance and Acceptance of Supplications, about the people.  He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’” (Sahih Ahmad)

Arafat History

The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) delivered His last sermon standing on Mount Arafat to Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of His life… This the main reason by which all pilgrims visit this plain during the Hajj.

Some Muslims also says that it is also the place it is where the Adam and Eve reunited after falling from Heaven.

Dua to Recite

Remember and recite this specific time when it arrives.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

“None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without a partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and all praise and He is over all things omnipotent.”

What is Arafat and its Virtues?

  • Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said, “Hajj is Arafat” (Abu Dawud)
  • Islam was perfected and Allah completed His favor on all Muslim Ummah. This was revealed to Prophet Muhammad when he was standing on the mount on Friday.
  • It is also believed to be a better day by Prophet Muhammad for fasting as it forgives the sins of the last and the coming year. [Sahih Muslim]. Fasting on this day is a subscription to two years.
  • It is no less than Eid for all those people who stand on plain following the three consecutive days.
  • Yawm Arafat ( Arafat)
  • Yawm Al-Nahr ( Call for Sacrifice)
  • Ayyaam al-Tashreeq (Call for Fasting)

This marks the three days of Eid festivals.

  • Furthermore, it is an odd numbered date on which Allah swore on an oath about the promised day of Resurrection.
  • Allah took a covenant from the progeny of Adam in Nam’maan, i.e Arafat. He brought forth from his loins and spread them before Him.
  • It is called the day of ‘Freedom from Fire’. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said, “There is no day than this on which Allah frees people from the fire of the Hell than Arafat. He comes close and expresses his pride in angels saying, what do these people want?”
