Flåm Railway: Best Two Hours to Spend On a Train

Tags: flam train myrdal
When I started planning my trip to Norway, I searched for ways to travel from one place to another. As I cannot drive and don’t want to spend hours in airports, the railway seems to be the best choice, and Norwegian landscapes whisper: “Yes, you should definitely take a train to visit top tourist attractions and contemplate the views”. I was truly surprised to find out that train trip can be the attraction itself! So, today I will tell you about the breathtaking Flam Railway that is a must-thing-to-do in Norway, how to get to Flam from Oslo and Bergen, where to buy tickets, find the schedule and more.

Myrdal to Flam Train Trip

The Flam Railway attraction is a 20-km trip from Flam to Myrdal that includes 11 stations to stop, 20 tunnels to pass, and numerous valley-mountain views to enjoy.

The round trip takes about 2 hours, it includes several viewing places, and one of the best among them is a 5-minute stop at Kjosfossen waterfall. Those traveling in summer can meet the dancing Huldra (a charming forest female creature from Scandinavian folklore).

The most wonderful thing about Flam Line is its unique route that starts at the sea level in Flam and ends in the mountain Myrdal, the station located 867m above the sea level. Thus, it is one of the steepest railway routes not only in Norway but also in the word.

Railway Tickets Price and Train Schedule

One of the best things about this attraction is that Flam-Myrdal route is the branch line of the Bergen-Oslo railways, which makes it an easy-to-go destination from two biggest cities in Norway.

Bergen to Myrdal or Oslo to Myrdal

It does not matter if you stay in Bergen or Oslo, you can take a train from both these cities to Myrdal, and from then from Myrdal to Flam. If you want to travel from Bergen, you can take either regional or local train to Myrdal.

If you decide to travel by regional train, you will be offered an audiobook and a digital newspaper. In addition to that, you will be able to get a refund or change the ticket for an extra charge. Those who stay in Oslo can take only a regional train. All regional trains allow to take bicycles and pet on board, offer snacks and Wi-Fi.

Myrdal to Flam Tickets and Timetable

Trains from Myrdal to Flam and the other way go every day, regardless the season. However, there are fewer departures in winter. The round trip is worth around 550 NOK (which is approximately €50), but it is definitely worth it. You can find timetables, prices, and buy tickets on the website of Norwegian railway.
Spending to hours on a train and enjoying the landscapes is only one thing to do in Flam. Those interested in fjord cruises can also take one of them in this Norwegian village.

Get inspired and never stop dreaming!
