President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee Visited the Vikramshila University Ruins on Monday. It was a part of his 3 days visit to west Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar started on 1st of April.

He said that since his college days he was so fascinated towards this ancient seat of learning and wisdom and so today he was overwhelmed by the wish of people of the region who look forward to its revival. President Pranab Mukherjee said that he would talk to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the revival of the university. While addressing a gathering, he stressed on the contribution of Vikramshila University as a renowned institution in the field of research in ancient India. he further added that Vikramshila must be revived as a university rather than just being a museum. He also mentioned in his speech that ancient centers of learning like Nalanda, Takshshila, and Vikramshila had played an utmost role in research and learning.

While Stressing on the need for such universities in India, Mr. Mukherjee said that the University should be developed like Nalanda. He added that the revival of Vikramshila University will be an important step toward preserving Indian Civilisational ethos. He also said that once the university is revived, it should have the best faculty and should pursue collaborations with foreign institutions. He also advocated tie-ups with local innovators.

Yesterday, The President arrived in a Bihar government helicopter at Kahalgaon and stayed the night at NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation’s) guest house.
