Mjejane Accommodation – Dining in the African Bush

Spectacular views and river frontage, interrupted by thorn trees, savannah grass, curious warthogs and skittish zebra, are your backdrop at Mjejane accommodation. Game drives are booked and the pool is located. For a true breakaway experience, local dining options will give moms a break from self-catered meals and dads a break from firing up the braai.

Breakfast, Lunch and Supper at Mjejane Accommodation- African Style

Jabula Restaurant

On arrival at your Mjejane Accommodation you pause at the views and breathe in the wild African air. Then you unpack your cooler bag. Where are the eggs…and milk? Fear not– breakfast (steak, egg and chips), as well as lunch and dinner are all sorted at Jabula restaurant, just 4.5km away. ‘Jabula’ is isiZulu for ‘rejoice’ and that is certainly the vibe here. The setting, affordable food, great service and friendly South African hospitality far outweigh the convenience of the Jabula restaurant. If you want an authentic African Bush dining experience, find a table on the deck to breakfast or lunch under the African sky, or enjoy dinner under the stars. Traditional fare is proudly on offer – ‘bobotie,’ ‘potjiekos,’ ‘pap and wors’ and ‘vetkoek.’ To honour Madiba’s personal favourite, try the ‘bunny chow.’ Meat lovers will not be disappointed, with wild game such as kudu and springbok being served alongside crocodile with local wines. For those with a sweet tooth, partner coffee with ‘koeksisters’ and ‘melktert.’ Believe me, Mom will thank you.

Phumula Kruger Lodge Restaurant

‘Phumula’ means ‘to rest’ in isiZulu and this family-run restaurant will offer you that opportunity. Only 7km from your Mjejane accommodation, Phumula restaurant is committed to quality and service, offering an authentic African feel. Open throughout the year, except for Christmas Day, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all sorted. Breakfast options include pap, sheba and boerewors. A creative and expansive Mains menu offers Impala potjie and pork neck with honey mustard sauce. Rest assured, firm family favourites such as spaghetti bolognese and burgers are also on the menu. Your meal will not be complete without the malva pudding. And no – the zebra that wanders up to your table is not the waitron, but he might be prepared to have a selfie taken with you.

Ngwenya Lodge Restaurant

Half an hour away from your Mjejane accommodation, you might consider taking a Sunday drive and heading to Ngwenya Lodge for a 3 course buffet lunch. Situated on the banks of the Crocodile River, overlooking the Kruger Park, ‘Ngwenya’ is a Xitsonga word appropriately meaning ‘Crocodile.’ The kiddies might prefer the pizzas from the wood burning pizza oven, known as being  the best for miles.   Mjejane accommodation provides the perfect starting point to explore and experience the Kruger region.
